Using Project Read® Fillable PDFs in Google Classroom

3 EASY OPTIONS

  1. Email Individual Pages as an Attachment.
    Simply email the activity to your students and they can fill out and return as an email attachment to the teacher.
  2. Install the Kami Extension to Google Classroom.
    When using Kami, the sheets remain fillable for students and they can return to the teacher within Google Classroom.

STEP 1:  Teachers and Students
Add the Kami Extension (free version or basic plan) to BOTH the Teacher and Student Devices
  1. Click Here in Google Chrome to Install "Kami Extension – PDF and Document Annotation"
  2. Click the blue Add to Chrome button
  3. Click on Add Extension

  4. The following icon will appear on your extension toolbar:

STEP 2:  Teachers
Uploading the Fillable PDFs to Google Classroom
  1. Go to your Google Drive
  2. Upload the fillable Student Sheet PDFs from the flash drive
  3. Go to your Google Classroom and click on the ‘classwork tab’.
  4. Click on the purple ‘Create’ button to add an assignment
  5. Select ‘Assignment’ from a dropdown menu that will appear
  6. Give the assignment a title
  7. Type in any instructions (optional)
  8. Assign a due date on right-hand side
  9. Click on the ‘add’ button which
  10. Select ‘Google Drive’ to retrieve a fillable PDF activity sheet
  11. Click on the PDF student sheet that you wish to assign
  12. After adding the PDF sheet to Google classroom select the down arrow to the right of the student practice sheet
  13. Select ‘Students can edit file’
  14. Also select ‘Make a copy for each student’
  15. Click on the purple ‘Assign’ button in upper right-hand corner to send your assignment to students via Google Classroom

 

STEP 3:  Students
Opening and Submitting Fillable Assignment
  1. Open your Google Classroom
  2. The new assignment should pop up under the ‘Stream’ button at the top
  3. Click on the assignment from a list that will appear on the same page
  4. Click on the PDF under the ‘Your Work’ section on right-hand side

  5. After clicking on the PDF to view the activity sheet, select ‘Open With’ in the center top portion of your screen
  6. Select ‘Annotate with Kami’
  7. Type directly on to the assignment
  8. Click on ‘Save Now’ in drop-down menu found under the disk icon in Kami

  9. Leave the Kami Extension and return to Google Classroom
  10. Hit the left arrow in upper left-hand side to exit original PDF (Note: your annotations may not show on the original PDF, but they have been saved in Kami and will be submitted via Google Classroom)
  11. Assignment will show up in ‘Your Work’ on the right-hand side in Google Classroom
  12. Click purple ‘Turn In’ button
  13. Click ‘Turn In’ on pop-up box

 

STEP 4:  Teachers
Receiving and Grading Assignment
  1. In your Google Classroom, click on ‘Classwork’ in upper center
  2. Click on ‘People’ in upper center of screen
  3. Select the individual student
  4. Click on the assignment
  5. Type in grade on right-hand side
  6. Add any comments
  7. Select blue ‘Return’ button

STEP 1:  Teachers and Students
Load Google Classroom, Google Drive, and Google Docs to both Teacher and Student iPads

 

STEP 2:  Teachers
Uploading the Fillable PDFs to Google Classroom
  1. Go to your Google Drive
  2. Upload the fillable Student Sheet PDFs from the flash drive
  3. Go to your Google Classroom
  4. Go to ‘Classwork’ at bottom center of screen
  5. Click on the round purple + (plus sign) button in lower right-hand side
  6. Give the assignment a title
  7. Type in any instructions (optional)
  8. Type in assignment points
  9. Assign a due date
  10. Click on the paperclip in the upper right-hand side of screen
  11. Select ‘My Drive’
  12. Click on the student sheet
  13. Click on the send button

 

STEP 3:  Students
Opening and Submitting Fillable Assignments
  1. Open your Google Classroom
  2. Select subject/class (example: English)
  3. New assignment will show up in list below
  4. Click on ‘New Assignment’
  5. Practice sheet will open
  6. Click on the box with the arrow in the upper right-hand corner of screen
  7. Assignment will appear on screen
  8. Tap on fields to complete and Type directly on to the assignment
  9. When complete, click on ‘save’
  10. Use the arrow button to submit assignment
    –OR–
    Click on the ‘3 donuts’ button, select ‘open in’ and click on Google Classroom icon. Select ‘Attach to Assignment’. Click on assignment. Select purple ‘Mark as Done’ button.

 

STEP 4:  Teachers
Receiving and Grading Assignments
  1. In your Google Classroom, click on the class
  2. Individual student work will show up on right-hand side of screen
  3. Select the individual student
  4. Click on the assignment
  5. Type in grade
  6. Add any comments
